23 ways for a comic artist to survive & thrive in any economy
Sure, you might be sitting on the next multi-million dollar idea. But until you hit it big, you gotta survive in the meantime. This guide will help you.

How to prepare yourself for the artist alley
This guide is a few years old, but all the information is still helpful and relevant. Even if you've been to an artist alley before, it doesn't hurt to brush up on this guide.

Self Publishing/Swag Related:
Ka-blam
They'll print your comic/manga/whatever for a good price. They also do t-shirts, art prints, art boards, hardcovers, and flyers.

Printsess
Printsess is a fairly new printing company, but they are truly awesome. Whether you need plastic charms or metal charms they are ready to help you. They provide good customer service and fast shipping.

Vista Print
Vista Print has been one of my personal favorites for a long time. They have so many cool things you can order. Business cards, pens, magnets, letterhead, banners, tote bags, hats, calendars, t-shirts, name tags, and more! Prices are reasonable for everything.

Story Creation Related:
Seventh Sanctum
Seventh Sanctum is a haven for awesome generators. Need a story? There's a generator for that. Need a character's name, behavior, or appearance? There's a generator for that. Plus they always have fun contests to test your creativity.

Way With Worlds
A sister site to seventh sanctum, Way With Worlds focuses on world creation. It helps you figure out the little details about your universe so you don't have plot holes.

Patrica C. Wrede's Worldbuilder Questions
Like Way With Worlds, this helps to build a world. It, does it without the articles. Just questions to ask yourself about your new world.

Hate Mary Sue's? Don't We All!
This 3 part series examines mary sues and provides tips to avoid creating one. It's an excellent read.

:iconcollaborativegrowth:
This is a group dedicated to having your work critiqued. Simply submit some work and get a critique. The catch is for every piece you submit, you have to critique someone else's work. This keeps everything fair and balanced (Even more so than Fox News).

Story Creations With A Deadline Related:
Maybe your story just isn't working out. Maybe you've tried and tried, but you just can't finish your story. Maybe you need a little more motivation. The following links will help you get your story done by giving you a deadline.

Scream Prompts
You feel like if you read one more bad poem about wrist cutting, you'll punch a baby in the face. You're tired of sitting around and doing nothing to improve your writing. This is where Scream Prompts comes in. These are monthly challenges designed to kick your ass and force you to write outside of the box.

NaNoWriMo
The infamous NaNoWriMo is both easy and challenging at the same time. All you have to do is write a 50,000 word story (Novel). The catch is that you must write it in one month. Are you up for the challenge? Both the NaNoWriMo website and dA have tutorials and tips to help you along so you won't be doing it alone. I'll be writing along too, and so will the group Syn-Ren as part of it's monthly challenge.

Script Frenzy
Script Frenzy is the same idea as NaNoWriMo. This time you'll be writing a script. You can write a movie, stage play, tv, or comic book script. Script Frenzy starts in April but you can prepare for writing it now.

Writing Club Related:
Maybe you want to be surrounded by other people who write, but can't find anyone you know who does. The following clubs are friendly and focus on writing. Make new friends and gain additional writing skill.

:iconamateur-writing:
This group focuses and beginning and amateur writers. They are pretty diverse in what they accept. Poems, prose, short story, fan fiction, original character fiction, ect. They even except work in different languages.

:iconaspiringwritersdojo:
This group focuses on writers who eventually want to be published. This means no fan fiction, only original stuff. They offer critiques and writing prompts, should you get stuck on your story. They accept poetry and prose too.

:iconwriters-workshop:
This group is very helpful. They offer workshops, critiques and they explore different writing styles. They are a very big group, so you'll be surrounded with a bunch of people who can help you.

Fashion Related:
Need to figure out a character's outfit? Need a new look for yourself? Wanna find a modern way to dress like a Disney Princess? This is the section for you!

Polyvore
Polyvore is a great place for fashion inspiration. Their front page hosts cool trendy outfits, but the real magic is in their search tool. You can search for style advice, collections, products, sets (Personal fav) and more. It's even great for just goofing off. Type in your name and see what it suggests. You'll be amazed.

College Fashion
College Fashion is great. It gives you fashion ideas and tips for surviving college. That dress like a Disney Princess thing I mentioned earlier? I wasn't kidding. Check out the outfit collection for Ariel. It gives out tips to wear the latest trends too. Right now, Lace is in.

Lookbook
Everyday people put together fashionable looks. I use this one all the time to figure out outfits for characters.

Time Wasters
You know, stuff you look at while you should be working/doing homework/saving people from burning buildings, ect.

Tumblr
Thousands of blogs can be found here, so there's bound to be a blog for you. Like kittens/lesbians/anything else in the world? You can find a blog about it.

Jinni
Wanna see a movie that's about fighting, but you think you've seen everything? Jinni searches for movies based on genres and sub genres. So when I type in "fighting" Sure, I get Kill Bill 1. But I also get things like Mulan, Serenity, 30 days of night, and Meet the fockers. All of them are about fighting within different genres.

Literature.org
Wanna read a full book online? Now you can. Read works by Poe, Lewis Carroll, J.M. Barrie, The Bronte sisters, Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and more. There's a wide selection of work to choose from. For now, you can only read classic literature on this site, as copyright laws prohibit posting stuff until the author has been dead for 75+ years. However each year you'll be able to read new stuff there, since copyright time limits are up. H.P. Lovecraft stuff should be coming soon!

TopWebComics
Vote daily for your favorite webcomics, while discovering some new ones as you go. I found my current favorite webcomic, "What Birds Know", this way.

Topless Robot's Fan Fiction Fridays (NSFW)
Love reading epicly bad stories for lolz. This blog is dedicated to it. Read, laugh, and reassure yourself you aren't capable of writing anything this bad.

Free stuff & trials of stuff for free
'Cuz free is best, right?

Teen Freeway
A website that says they give away free stuff and really does! I've been using this site since I was 15 (7 years ago!). It's awesome. You can get free magazines (Blender, forbes), free makeup samples, catalogs, contact lenses, coupons, ect.

Freestuff.com
Discovered this one this year. Wide variety of free stuff here. Crest white strips, tanning samples, Olay Quench Lotion samples. Basically more brand name free stuff can be found here.

Totallyfreestuff.com
Like freestuff.com, it has brand names. But it also lists cool contests and fun activities.

Adobe
Download trial version of the latest versions of adobe products. These include Photoshop, Illustrators, Flash, Dreamweaver, Premiere, InDesign, and more.

Autodesk
Get a trial version of 3DS Max 2011. I can almost guarantee you'll be better at it than I ever was.

Amazon free music downloads
Amazon has awesome MP3 downloads. Artists include Rod Stewart, Beyonce, Trapt, Badly Drawn Boy, Dio, and more.
